I was very surprised to get the following information about the origin of the word ভগবান [God] from the interesting scholarly book "বিজ্ঞান ও দেবদেবী":

ভগবান = ভগ + বান

भगवान = भग + वान

ভগৱান = ভগ + ৱান

Like ধনবান, which means one who owns a lot of ধন/money, ভগবান [God] means The Owner of many ভগ/भग - The Owner of many v. - because ভগ/भग means vagina ! SHOCKING!
